“For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings, they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time.”

~ Henry Beston from his book The Outermost House

I’ve always been a digital subscriber to Clarkesworld, but I upgraded to print. Really nice quality, thick paper. Love having both.

We were watching “World’s Most Amazing Walk” on the BBC app last night. The host was walking Hadrian’s Wall and he stopped and ate Mint Cake. I had never heard of Mint Cake before. Ordered it yesterday - It’s really good!

A package of Romneys Kendal Mint Cake is displayed on a wooden surface.

I’m always amazed at how long it takes to build and tweak a simple web page to your liking. I’m 6+ hours into this one, and I gotta call it a night. More to do tomorrow. Hey, when you’re sick, you gotta find projects! ☺️

Something I reference as a pilot, but also very interesting to look at during world events.

Goodnight everybody.

May you sleep a full uninterrupted, 8 hours (ya, me neither, I’m lucky to get 6.5 hours) and wake up to a beautiful cup of coffee or tea.

4:30 wake-up for me!

Time for a balcony read; starting Claire Keegan’s novella, Small Things Like These.

Great post.

But there’s something quietly beautiful about a place where people just… share what they know. No brand deals, no engagement metrics, no algorithm nudging you toward rage. Just someone who spent twenty years studying Arctic policy posting a thread at 2 AM because they think you should understand what’s happening. It’s the internet I was promised in 1996. It only took thirty years and the complete collapse of American journalism to get here.

The pen addiction continues. It gave me a chance to try out my new lightbox for taking product pictures. I have a lot to learn about lighting and placement.

The pen is very nice. It has a nice weight to it, and with the fine tip, I love how it writes. My only complaint is the barrel, which tapers too much toward the tip, leaving me with too little material to make it feel comfortable in my hand.

What a great artistic reuse of old license plates!

Really struggling today with a possible job change. I’ve applied for a new position and I just found out if I get it, I’d have to give up a big portion of my current job that I dearly love. Give up something that you know you love for something you’re not sure you love.

Parts of me want to pull the plug on the whole decision making process and reset back to where I was. Other parts want to explore something new. 8 years until retirement. Stay with what you know or venture out into the unknown.

I’m supposed to be doing taxes, and all I seem to be doing is futzing with pictures and trying to come up with curling-inspired band names! 🤪 🤣
